Don't Ollie On Thin Ice!
Hand-numbered edition of only 100 copies LP from Belgian visual artist Dennis Tyfus’s Vom Grill project: two tracks of non-spazz electronics, keyboard and profoundly deformed tongue, moving from scraping, skittering sound werks that come over like Blood Stereo play John Cage’s cartridge music to a fantastic fat, doomy synth solo that makes like Heldon hymning Lucifer. Less madman and a lot more moody than you might expect, this makes for a consistently bent atmosphere from start to finish.…
Deceh
Limited edition of 400. Handmade letterpressed covers. Deceh is a fine drone quartet utilizing traditional ethnic drone instruments as well as vintage analog synthesizers. This record was recorded on a centered room microphone as the group sat in a perfect square around it. B/P/M Series 1
Absolutely mind melting release from this consistently amazing American duo. This release has a very different sound to the superb drone recordings of their recent releases, yet it is still totally immense but really quite unexpected. This was previously issued as a tour-only CDR in a press of somewhere between 20 and 30 copies. Brian Pyle and Merrick McKinlay spent sometime recording legendary Humboldt based pianist Darius Brottman, who also happens to have a radio show before Brian's own show …
Always Wrong
f you're wondering whether record labels still matter, consider the case of Wolf Eyes. Their last two widely distributed albums, 2004's Burned Mind and 2006's Human Animal, came out on Sub Pop and got lots of media attention, even landing the band on the cover of The Wire. Three years later, Wolf Eyes return with Always Wrong, a follow-up of sorts after reams of smaller-run releases. It came out on Hospital in May, and I can't find a single review beyond a few blog entries and tweets. Even The W…
The Shepherdess and the Bone-White Bird
Stone Breath returns with their first new album in over 5 years. A visionary creation of Eastern-influenced rural acid folk. From fingerpicked acoustics; to clawhammer banjo excursions; to the side-long exaltation that is “The Shepherdess of the Fiery Wheels,” Stone Breath manifest their best work to date; an entire set of originals with the strange and beautiful harmonies and instrumentation which graced their past work. They are clear in sight, united in purpose, and shining in the darkness. C…

Just Intonation. No effects processing (pre or post) was used in this recording. All effect-like qualities result from the multi-unison strings (phasing), sympathetic vibrations, combination/difference tones (of the chosen just …

Honey
Giannis Kotsonis has been performing under the ‘Sister Overdrive’ alias, keeping himself active with soundwork for theatre, dance, installation and cinema alongside his purely musical work. Initially working through his laptop, his practice has broadened considerably in recent years to include a greater range of external sources and a more detailed exploration of the electroacoustic possibilities inherent in his tools. ‘Honey’ comes at the tail-end of a couple of very productive years, ex…
untitled, (magnetisms)
First collaborative project between Pierre Gerard (Belgium) and Andy Graydon (Germany/USA). Invited by winds measure to produce a work for cassette tape, the two artists focused on the the particular materiality of this sound technology, once so common and now so rare. Tape's manipulation of a magnetic field evoked other sorts of sensitive magnetic systems, from the intuitive navigation of migratory birds to the organization of the earth's polarity. The single sound elements were layered and sequenced into different movements of varying shapes and colors, focusing on the pure essence and aesthetics of sound. Each track interweaves longer, stretched, tonal…
Northern Resonance I
In the winter of 2008 C. Spencer Yeh (Burning Star Core) and Jon Wesseltoft (Tongues of Mount Meru, Maranata) would meet in Wesseltoft's native Norway to record the tracks, which comprise this tape. With Yeh on violin and Wesseltoft on harmonium the duo blazes through the northern sky unleashing a meditative eulogy to the Nordic gods of past, present and future.  The reeds maintain the momentum while the strings wail in unison.  Fans of Tony Conrad and Henry Flynt take note.  Artwork by L…
